Get into the NHS (Derbyshire)


This course will help you learn more about the wide range of roles and specialties in the Health & Social Care sector at the NHS and prepare you to apply for jobs where you can make a difference.

You'll discover the right role and career path for you, receive training and work experience at an NHS hospital to help you become a competitive job applicant, and get a feel for what working in a hospital really looks like

By attending this course you have the opportunity to apply for work experience in:

  • Catering Assistant
  • Domestic/Porter
  • Receptionist
  • Healthcare Assistant
  • Admin

WHO: Young people aged 18-30 (not in work or education)

WHEN: Taster Day: 22nd September || Main programme: 27th September – 22nd October

WHERE: Both virtually and in person (see Derbyshire location below)


Week 1

We'll introduce you to the NHS and working life within the hospital.

Weeks 2-4

You will begin comprehensive employability training and including apprenticeship learning sessions. You will be taught about hospital terminology and learn about the wide variety of roles in the NHS and how to progress your NHS career. You will also receive tailored support with each step of the application and interview process.

We will be helping you to find vacancies that match what you're looking for and suit your experience level and guiding you throughout the application.

After the programme young people can apply for Admin positions, and will be eligible for Estates and facilities bank and healthcare bank roles.

Don't forget!

  • The programme is eligible for young people aged 18-30 who live within a commutable distance for jobs in Derbyshire.
  • Location: St Oswalds Hospital, Kingsway hospital, Clay Cross Hospital, Ilkeston Hospital,
  • You must be available to attend the whole programme when you sign up
  • the sessions will take place online and face to face, please ensure you have access to microsoft teams on a preferred device (i.e. phone, laptop or tablet) and an awareness of your transport links
  • Be prepared to start work immediately. Before you sign up, think about how the current government measures will affect you and the people at home with you.
